Lifting Too Often
One common misconception is the idea that lifting weights everyday will help you build muscle quicker however this is very unsupported. In actual fact protein synthesis, the process that takes place in order to create muscle, actually occurs up to 48 hours after you have lifted the weights which is why you should place your focus on diet and rest in order to give the fibres enough time to repair themselves.
Not Lifting Heavy Enough
When you are trying to build muscle you should place your focus on gaining strength and this comes from increasing the amount you lift over time in order to force your body to adapt to the change. As a result, your body creates new muscle in order to meet these demands you’ve set. If you do not challenge your body with heavier weights, it will not form new muscle mass.
Doing Too Much Cardio
When your focus is to build muscle you can sabotage yourself by carrying out too many cardio related exercises since you burn calories through this. Like not eating enough calories can be counterproductive, burning too many calories through cardio can leave your body with too little energy to actually carry out protein synthesis so whilst cardio is necessary, doing too much can be detrimental to your goals.
