Taking that first step towards joining the gym can be difficult, especially if you are a beginner. After all, nothing is worse than entering an environment for the first time only to discover that you really don’t fit in. Fret not, the team here at Fitness Training Solutions have got you covered! In order to make the gym a more inclusive activity, we’ve decided to put together a guide perfect for beginners! If that’s you, read on to find out more…

Mind Over Matter

It is not uncommon to allow our mind to rule what we actually do. In fact, if you have found yourself convinced not to do something after worrying about what people will think, whether you’ll be doing things incorrectly and if you’ll look out of place then you have already failed at the first hurdle. In order to engage in exercise and fitness you have to control your mind and thoughts or else you will never try anything new.

Start Simple

You shouldn’t expect to go into a gym for the first time and start lifting heavy weights. Not only is this unrealistic, it will make you terrified at the thought of that first ever session. Start simple by doing what you know. Cardio is a great way to kick off your session since everyone usually knows how to operate these machines.

Make Your Way Around

Once you have figured out where everything is and how that particular gym operates, it is a great idea to make your way around the studio. This way you are able to check out which machines you enjoy rather than overwhelming yourself.

Now you know how to tackle your very first gym experience, it’s time to put on the trainers and get going. After all, there is nothing worse than putting off the inevitable and one day you will have to face the music and go –  why not make today that day?! As part of our gym instructor courses, we teach you how to respond to clients that aren’t yet comfortable in a gym environment. For more information, contact a member of the Fitness Training Solutions team today!

How Come It’s So Difficult To Gain Muscle? https://fitnesstrainingsolutions.co.uk/come-difficult-gain-muscle/ https://fitnesstrainingsolutions.co.uk/come-difficult-gain-muscle/#respond Wed, 27 Dec 2017 12:51:08 +0000 https://fitnesstrainingsolutions.co.uk/?p=12419 Many people often underestimate the difficulty involved when it comes to building muscle mass and they presume that lifting weights will give them the look they desire when it reality there are a lot of different elements that go into the entire process. Many people often underestimate the difficulty involved when it comes to building muscle mass and they presume that lifting weights will give them the look they desire when it reality there are a lot of different elements that go into the entire process. As the experts, the team here at Fitness Training Solutions have decided to go over what really makes muscle growth such a challenge once and for all…

Generally, one pound of body fat is equal to around 3500 calories which means that losing fat requires what is known as a calories deficit. Now losing this fat is a slow process and requires time as well as a lot of hard work. However, breaking down muscle is equal to around 6000 calories and is a very fast process. With this said, using muscle for energy is counterproductive because people want to gain muscle not lose it!

So why is gaining muscle in the first place so hard?

In order to synthesise one pound of muscle the body require a calorific surplus of 2700 calories and looking at this in terms of natural production, building one pound per month is quite a task. The reason the process is so hard is because many people do not factor their diet into the big picture and what we eat is perhaps the most vital aspect of the entire equation.

Over one month the average person requires an extra 90 calories per day in order to build that one pound of muscle, however many people are eating way beyond that without doing the activity required so they end up putting on fat instead muscle. If you are eating a surplus you must ensure that you consume the necessary protein to repair the damage created during weight lifting sessions so that muscle mass can be created.

As part of our personal training courses here at Fitness Training Solutions we look into a whole range of different aspect of the fitness world in order to help you understand every part properly. After all, being able to define fat loss and muscle growth from one another is something that every personal trainer should be able to do. For more information, speak to a member of the team today!

Although experts tell us time and time again there are still some people that think exercise is a choice we make. Unfortunately, it is quite the opposite. Our bodies require exercise and physical activity in order to stay healthy, especially when we get older. In order to clear some things up we are going to go over a few reasons why exercise is so important…

Stamina

Completing exercise on a regular basis is very good for our stamina, which is defined as the body’s ability to sustain a prolonged physical or mental effort. This is because we gradually get used to the effect that exercise has on our body and can change the way we approach things in order to improve things like our speed and strength.

Weight

It is easy to adopt a bad diet in the developed world which is why exercising is incredibly vital in maintaining a healthy weight and keeping your insides healthy. In fact, it is recommended that you complete just 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise per day in order to keep yourself active.

Quality

Carrying out regular exercise may be a drag however it can drastically improve your quality of life, especially when you get older. This is because our muscles become weaker and our bones become much more fragile as we age so it is important to work them when we are younger.

Here at Fitness Training Solutions we teach our personal trainers that they will meet a range of different people during their careers and that each one will be looking for something completely different. In order to help each person to the best of your ability it is important that you make them understand why the body requires exercise. To find out more information, get in contact with a member of the team and ask about our fitness instructor courses today!

Once you have read something online that appears to make sense it can be hard to shake away the intrigue. After all, unless you try it you will always be left wondering ‘what if?’. One of the most problematic things about this mindset is that it often leads people to make some devastating decisions that can affect their fitness progress in the long run. The most common training program like this is the ‘bro split’ which splits up your training days into segments and encourages you to train certain body parts on certain days. Here are the pros and cons…

Pros

If you are a body builder who visits the gym every single day and needs to focus on certain muscles, the bro split can be extremely helpful. After all, you can dedicate a full 45 minutes to your legs without having to watch the clock and since there are dozens of different lifts that work the leg muscles, you are free to add a little variety to your workouts. If you have experience with weight lifting then the bro split could be beneficial to your routine as long as you are dedicated.

Cons

On the other hand, the bro split is extremely  time consuming and often requires 5 out of 7 days a week gym commitment. Of course, not everybody has this amount of time to set aside and if you miss one session then it can throw the entire schedule off par which means that it isn’t very flexible. Due to this, the bro split is not recommended for those who are new to the lifting world.

Sometimes people are so wrapped up in a training regime that it can be hard to break down the barrier and help them understand the mistakes they are making. The Bro Split is one of the most common mistakes that beginner weight lifters will make and we want to spread the right information through our fitness instructor courses. If you’re interested in turning a hobby into a career, get in contact with a member of the Fitness Training Solutions team today!

In the fitness world, you either love cardio or hate it with a firing passion. After all, it has the tendency to be boring and most of us have to force ourselves to carry it out in the first place. With this said, cardio holds a vital role in the world of fitness and we want to let people know why. Read on to find out more…

Health Benefits

Carrying out cardio comes with a whole range of health benefits that can actually save your life in the long run. This is because it makes our heart beat faster in order to pump blood and oxygen around the body. At first this will use up all of the glycogen that our body has stored in our liver, followed by excess fat. Of course, this can be great if you are looking to lose weight!

In addition to this, when the heart beats faster it becomes stronger and this means that you will become much fitter. Carrying out regular cardio can not only prevent cardiovascular problems like heart disease from developing, it can also reduce blood pressure and ease anxiety.

Variety

One of the best benefits of cardio exercise is that it comes in a range of different forms. In fact, you don’t even need to have a gym membership to carry out cardio. For instance, you can run, swim, cycle and even do Zumba. In fact, cardio can be gained through hobbies like dancing or skateboarding. Due to this, it means that the exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous and boring.

It is safe to stay that cardio plays a vital role in our general wellbeing, in particular our cardiovascular health. Without it we would become incredibly unhealthy. After all, this type of exercise helps lower our risk of developing life-threatening diseases in our elder years. As cardio is so important, our personal training courses here at Fitness Training Solutions are cardio filled so that we can help you pass on the knowledge necessary to be a great personal trainer. When it reaches the end of the year it is not uncommon for people to think that they have earned the month off in order to celebrate during the holiday period. With this said, very few people have consistently stuck to their goals throughout the year which means that letting yourself go snack crazy is not the best plan. Here are a few tips and tricks from the Fitness Training Solutions team to help you stick to your fitness goals during the most difficult time of the year…

Plan the week ahead

It is safe to say that preparation is the most important part of weight loss. After all, if you do not schedule your training sessions you may find that a busy life gets in the way and if you do not plan your meals it becomes very easy to order in a takeaway. By being able to recall what day has what plan, you are more likely to stick to it.

Cook from scratch

Homemade meals are not only cost effective, they are healthier and whilst it takes longer to figure out how to cook a meal, especially if you are new to the idea of cooking, it is incredibly satisfying. Plus, there is almost always leftovers which can be frozen and saved for the future.

Drinks are calories!

We often forget how easy it is to drink our calories away, especially where alcohol is concerned and there isn’t a more tempting month to have as drink or two than December! If you plan for your drinks and remember that even a simple coffee can contain a hefty amount of calories, you are less likely to abandon your plan mid-week.

Here at Fitness Training Solutions, we know how difficult it can be to stay afloat during the christmas period. After all, there are mince pies in every shopping isle and every christmas party is filled with cakes, ice cream and a bunch of other incredibly unhealthy goodies. By planning and preparing for these special occasions, it is not impossible to stick to a diet during December! This is something we teach during our personal training courses as we want our qualified personal trainers to be able to help a range of different clients. Get in contact to find out more information today!

Very few people look forwards to waking up hours before their work day begins in order to hit the gym and likewise it is not very appealing to start lifting heavy weights after an 8 hour shift. Due to this, many people often put off the gym whilst quietly telling themselves that they will ‘go tomorrow’. Of course, they know this won’t happen either! In order to kickstart that hidden motivation, we’ve put together a couple of reasons why you should stop putting off the gym…

It will be worth it

Although our energy levels are often depleted before stepping foot inside the gym it has actually been proven that a session can give us a much-needed energy boost! In fact, sometimes all it takes is having the guts to step inside the gym once for a brand-new regime to begin and whilst you may be struggling to see the benefits at first, getting inside and on the treadmill is step one to realising that it is actually worth the effort!

Stress-free

Many people see working out as a means to eliminate their stress levels which is why the gym is so highly recommended for those in pressured working environments. By having an hour to yourself a few times a week in order to blow off some steam, you can greatly improve your mental state and ease some of the tension that can build up in your neck and shoulders without realising.

Here at Fitness Training Solutions we know the ins and outs of the gym which is why it is so easy for us to relay the benefits in our gym instructor courses. It is a personal trainers job however to ensure that a client can see these benefits too and are able to get the most out of their session. To find out more information about our courses, get in contact with a member of the team today!

With every single exercise that we carry out in the gym there is a correct form to follow in order to prevent injuries and trauma. After all, lifting weights with incorrect form can lead to a back issue or even a slipped disk. One of the most difficult exercises that many people struggle to do correctly is the squat. It seems simple however this compound movement can do serious damage if you carry it out incorrectly. Here are a few important tips and tricks to remember…

The Knees

Squatting can be hard work for the knees due to the repetitiveness of the movement. Due to this you should never allow the knees to slide forwards past the toes as this means that they are taking the brunt and weight of the exercise. Remember to sit into the movement so that it works your glutes instead.

The Back

Another thing that people tend to do is make their glutes protrude outwards so that there is a dip in their back. This is not only incredibly bad form, it can lead to an anterior pelvic tilt. Whilst you shouldn’t squat with a super straight perpendicular form, it is important that your back is only slightly arched.

Breathing

During any exercise it is vital that you breathe. Whilst this may sounds obvious you will be surprised how many people actually hold their breath, especially when the movement is challenging. With a squat the general rule is to take a deep breath in as you lower your body and then breathe out as you push upwards.

Carrying out proper form is something that all gym instructors are taught in order to pass onto their clients. After all, what use will an instructor be if they don’t know the safest way to carry out an exercise! Here at Fitness Training Solutions our gym instructor courses involve the theory and practical behind squats and other similar movements so you are able to pass such details on to your very own clients. To find out more information, get in contact with a member of the team today!

It is no secret that a personal trainer is a costly investment and that you have to be dedicated towards your sessions in order to make the money worth it. After all, nobody wants to splash out hundreds of pounds a year to look exactly the same in 12 months! With this said, there is no real rule that dictates what time of year is best suited towards personal trainer hiring however the team here at Fitness Training Solutions love being helpful so we are going to go over some pros and cons of the most common joining seasons…

January

In the personal training world, the month after christmas that signals a brand-new start is the busiest time of year. This is because everyone has decided to try a new routine in order to lose weight. This can of course be a blessing and a curse because business is booming and many people will decide to stick with their personal trainer. On the other hand, some people give up after a few months when the novelty has worn off. If you are dedicated then January may be a good month for you however if you know you will give up at the first hurdle then it may be wise to start another time and save your cash.

Summer

As the warmest time of year, the heat and humidity of summer can be quite off putting for many people and personal trainers will make your work hard regardless of the weather. On the other hand, it can be good to begin your personal trainer journey during the warmer months as it is easier to get out of bed!

Winter/Before Christmas

On the contrary, starting with a personal trainer in winter can make it incredibly difficult to get out of bed and into the gym as it is much warmer underneath the covers. With this said, getting to grips with your new healthy routine before christmas can prevent over eating during the holiday season!

Regardless of this information it is important to remember that there is no right or wrong time to start working out with a personal trainer. After all, they will help you get the results you want as safely as possible. In fact, if you think you could turn a fitness hobby into a career then our personal training courses may be of interest!
