- You should never advance something until your body is ready. In fact, your body will benefit more if you increase the time, intensity or reps gradually rather than suddenly. If we try to push ourselves before we are ready, we risk a serious injury. When it comes to strength, begin with light weights and increase the reps you do before adding any more weight and when it comes to cardio, increase your time before increasing your speed.
